What is Project Northern Waters
Deep pools are not just for divers. They are enabling infrastructure where first responders train safely, researchers push the limits of applied science, and technology developers validate the systems of the future. Countries across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East already operate them. Canada does not. Project Northern Waters is a founder-led initiative working to change that.

A purpose-built deep-water environment offers consistent depth, visibility, and environmental stability that natural water systems cannot provide, all managed as an efficient, sustainable system.

Clean-technology integration
Conventional aquatic facilities discharge heated, chemically treated water routinely. Project Northern Waters is designed around efficiency, stability, and recovery, demonstrating scalable clean-technology approaches that can be replicated across hundreds of facilities.
International collaboration
Deep-water facilities in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia already function as national assets. A domestically anchored Canadian facility would retain outbound activity, attract inbound international users, and let Canadian researchers contribute more fully to global aquatic science and technology development.
